Ms. Stefanie Scanlon

Ms. Scanlon graduated from University at Buffalo in 2012 with her Bachelors in Mathematics, and again in 2014 with her Masters in Mathematics Education. She is certified to teach Mathematics in grades 5-12.Her love for teaching began developing as an undergraduate student here at UB. As an undergraduate, she was a Teaching Assistant for Calculus classes and a tutor of high school and college students.
Ms. Scanlon joined the Gifted Math Program community in 2013 as a Teaching Assistant, and moved into a GMP 1 Instructor role the following year. She has been teaching for 5 years in Buffalo, which led to her current position as the 6th Grade Math Teacher at Tapestry Charter School. In these schools she has run a Sign Language Club and National Junior Honor Society. She has also designed Peer Tutoring programs.
In 2016, Ms. Scanlon attended the Anja S. Greer Conference on Mathematics and Technology at Philips Exeter Academy with other GMP staff members. Here, she participated in sessions on Harkness, Problem Solving, Standards Based Grading, and Digital Textbook development. She was able to use this knowledge to continue to adapt her presention of the Philips Exeter Academy Mathematics 1 materials to challenge the GMP 1 student.
Outside of GMP, Ms. Scanlon loves to read, cook, travel, hike and wear nerdy math t-shirts!
