American Mathematics Competition (AMC)

Every year at GMP, we offer our students the opportunity to try their hand at a national mathematics contest.  Our students have done well in the past, and a few have been invited to compete at the next level. Your GMP tuition includes registration for the AMC. Students can choose to share their scores when they apply to college.

AMC 8

Students who are in 8th grade or below take this test. We offer it to our GMP I and II students during a class night in February. This contest can be taken only once a year. Upper level students who are in 8th grade or lower may also participate. (Please call the office.)

Participants have 40 minutes to complete the 25 multiple-choice question contest. We will provide the needed materials.

AMC 10 and 12

These AMC contests take place outside of GMP hours in November. Students need to sign up here if they would like to compete. AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade or lower, usually in GMP III and IV. AMC 12 is for students in 12th grade or lower, usually GMP V and VI.

Participants have 75 minutes to complete the 25 multiple-choice question contest. We will provide the needed materials.

Preparing

The AMC contests are made up of challenging and unique problems. Our students do this type of thinking regularly in their homework assignments. We encourage you to visit the AMC website at http://www.maa.org/math-competitions where students who would like extra preparation can find problems to try.
