MathCounts

MathCounts is a contest for students in grades 6-8 who compete for their homeschools, but can prepare and attend the contest with GMP. Students take a contest test with their coach in January. Between 1 and 10 students advance to the local competition in February. Top students advance to the state competition in March and finally to the National competition in May.

Permission forms and specific information can be found here prior to the event.

New York State Mathematics League (NYSML)

The NYSML competition, for students in 12th grade or lower, is held at a different location in NY State each year in March. GMP participation may be determined by the location. A team of 15 students would participate.

Permission forms and specific information can be found here prior to the event.

The Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament

GMP will apply to attend The Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament in November. We may or may not be invited to participate as the organizers cannot include every team every year. This competition is intended for high school students.

Students who plan to compete should bring this permission form PDF documentto Dr. Mihai.

GMP Competes Club Membership

Students of the Gifted Math Program can use this GMP Competes Club registration formPDF documentto register for GMP Competes. Registration includes participation in club meetings. Parents may need to provide transportation for their student to and from contests, though we will try to coordinate transportation. Registration in the GMP Competes Club does not guarantee that a student can participate in all contests. Participation in the contests can depend on other factors, including age, home school permission and number of students that we are allowed to choose per team. All students can participate in the AMC contest and will be better prepared for it.

Registration will be accepted on a first come- first served basis. If the club is full we will notify you and return your check. Materials will be primarily available free online. Optional materials for purchase will be suggested.
