GMP Competes Club is intended to prepare students for the American Mathematics Competition, which GMP offers to all of our students. Club members may also compete in other contests such as those listed on this page.
MathCounts
MathCounts is a contest for students in grades 6-8 who compete for their homeschools, but can prepare and attend the contest with GMP. Students take a contest test with their coach in January. Between 1 and 10 students advance to the local competition in February. Top students advance to the state competition in March and finally to the National competition in May.
New York State Mathematics League (NYSML)
The NYSML competition, for students in 12th grade or lower, is held at a different location in NY State each year in March. GMP participation may be determined by the location. A team of 15 students would participate.
American Regions Mathematics League (ARML)
ARML is a contest for high school students who compete as a regional team of 15 students. The contest takes place in early June at Penn State University. Additional fees may be required for this event.
Purple Comet Math Meet
Purple Comet is a contest for students in middle and high school who compete as a team. The students do not have to be from the same school, so our GMP students can work together. The competition takes place in April.
